What is an Exercise Physiologist?

ACCREDITED EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGIST (AEP)

Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEP) are allied health professionals with a minimum 4 year Bachelor degree focusing on the assessment and delivery of clinical exercise interventions. An Exercise Physiologist’s scope of practice includes the management of acute, sub-acute and chronic medical conditions, injuries and disabilities via exercise.

During their degree, AEP’s cover the same in-depth study of anatomy, exercise physiology, biomechanics, sports medicine, motor control, musculoskeletal and cardiovascular exercise. In addition to this, Exercise Scientists also complete an extra year of study, focusing on the delivery of exercise in clinical situations.

WHAT CAN AN EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGIST DO AFTER GRADUATION?

After graduation and successful registration, AEP’s can work in a multitude of situations including hospitals and allied health clinics alongside physiotherapists, osteopaths and as very high level Personal Trainers who can manage complex cases.
